I want to resurface my cement porch, can I add white paint to the cement to make it whiter?

Use a concrete stain, I've been using the Bher with silicone for the past 10 yrs for clients and it's a very good product (about the only one) Good luck Les the painter, you should also power wash it first get all the mildew and residue offI want to resurface my cement porch, can I add white paint to the cement to make it whiter?
You are resurfacing with CEMENT? Are you sure you are resurfacing?

If so, there are mixes you can add for color. Not just stains anymore, and the paint would have to match the base for the cement. If you know what add-mix is, you can match that, and shouldn't have problems. If you are not a cement contractor, who knows the properties of cement, I would be very careful. It sounds like a disaster waiting to happen. Best of luck.I want to resurface my cement porch, can I add white paint to the cement to make it whiter?
use white cement instead of normal if u want a white finish and lasting too
There is a cement overlay system that is 3/8 in thick. You can apply other colors to it, however, it is naturally white as snow. It is designed to be a molecular overlay system with polymeres and modifiers giving it tinsel strength capable of vehicle traffic. It is not expensive and is relatively easy to apply. My supplier is www.surecretedesign.com on my personal page you can see some of finished product using this overlay. My page is www.myspace.com/ finishtouchenterprises .

If surecrete does not have a distributor near you there will be a supplier of architechural concrete products near you. These products can not be found at home depot or lowes..

Good luck with your project.
Use pigment, not paint. White may be a challenge. You may have to coat finished product with an epoxy.

God Bless

What paint is better for a cement floor?

We are painting our living room floor. My husband wanted me to buy a BEHR cement paint stain at Home Depot. However, they didn't have the colors we wanted available in that paint, so they told me that the BEHR Porch and Floor paint was exactly the same (the stain just has the option of semi-translucent colors, whereas the other does not) and they had a better variety of colors. I trusted the people, but have I made a big mistake, what is the difference? I'm nervous my husband will be very upset when he gets home, since it is non-refundable.What paint is better for a cement floor?
well, the paint is exactly that, paint. when you put it on it will cover the cement totally. what you could do is thin it out to make it more like a stain, it is probably oil based but check it out first and what ever they tell you to clean it up with is what you thin it out with, make sure you test a small inconspicuous area first to see how much thinning it needs to get the right finish that you wantWhat paint is better for a cement floor?
Cement stain is very different from paint. However the big advantage to paint is that you can patch any cracks in the cement and the paint will cover those patches completely. You can't do that with stain. Stain will show your patches.

I have used Behr cement paint on a patio and I was very happy with it.

Maybe your husband will be happy with it after all. I thought they could mix any color of stain just like they can mix any color of paint? You should probably call Home Depot to see if that paint guy knew what he was talking about. It's good paint though. You'll like working with it.

Paint on bricks and cement, how do you remove the paint safely?

paint is usually removed from masonry by sandblasting.Paint on bricks and cement, how do you remove the paint safely?
If the paint is cracking and peeling already, a pressure washer will be the easiest. You may be able to rent one somewhere where you live. Check the yellow pages.Paint on bricks and cement, how do you remove the paint safely?
Safely...use paint stripper; it won't damage the face of the brick like mechanical methods will.

  • Can you paint an outside cement porch if it isn't smooth?

My porch is a covered porch and I originally wanted to place ceramic tile. Can you paint an outside cement porch if it isn't smooth?
With proper floor paint. Depending on how not smooth it is, you can level it out a few mill by flooding it with paint. Not too much or it will never harden.

Tiles much better though. Can you paint an outside cement porch if it isn't smooth?
Yes, quite well, use Deck Paint. It just takes a little more paint when rough.

How and what do I use to remove the black tar glue from the cement floor in my basement so I can just paint it

buy a big scraper and scrape up what you can and then sandblast the rest off.

How to get off a yellow paint from a cement floor?

You will need a chemical paint stripper such as nitromoze to penetrate the grooves of the cement. Put it on their and it should work. You can also try a water pressure washer if you dont like chemicals. They can lift paint but you may have to clean the whole cement area otherwise you will have a clean patch. How to get off a yellow paint from a cement floor?

Start with a strong bristled nylon brush, hot water and scouring powder. Moisten the brush in the water then apply scouring powder directly to the paint spill. The paint will begin to come off in pieces. It will require a lot of elbow grease but eventually it should come up. For stubborn areas, try scraping with a razor blade.

I've made some assumptions here like this is a paint spill and not that you are trying to remove paint from a cement floor that has been entirely painted (of course if that were the case, you would just repaint.) Also I think this method works best with latex paint. Don't know what type of paint you are asking about. Best of Luck
