Im wondering, recently I went down to our unfinished basement and the cement wall we painted now has something

white (mossy) coming out of the cracks of the cement? Is this Radon? Is this mold? Is it dangerouse? The basement sometimes gets water 1/2'; 1'; deep but I never noticed this before. It is an old housebuilt in 1927. Does anyone know what this could be? I've heard of black mold and it is dangerouse but I never saw a white substance coming from the cement wall beforeIm wondering, recently I went down to our unfinished basement and the cement wall we painted now has something
It sounds like the salts and lime in the soil around your house leaching through the cement. We get this on our garage floor in the spring because of the extra moisture in the ground. It is not dangerous. To fix the problem you need to waterproof your exterior basement walls and if you are getting water in your basement , the weeping tiles around the footings probably are broken, or judging by the age of the house nonexistent. Do you have a sump hole? That is where the tile usually drains into and then your sump pump would pump the water away.Im wondering, recently I went down to our unfinished basement and the cement wall we painted now has something
Radon: no. Radon is an invisible gas.

Mold: maybe, but not terrifically likely.

Efflorescence would be my best guess -- salts from the cement and groundwater leaching through the walls.

Put up some pictures and you'll get better answers.

You can't see radon I would guess it's some kind of mold.
